Aya thinks
the mystery boy at the record store is the love of her life, but she has no
idea that it's actually Mitsuki, her quiet classmate in baggy clothes and
impeccable musical taste. Sumiko Arai's acclaimed work finally made the leap to
the small screen, as Aniplex presented the first video trailer for the anime
adaptation of Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko Janakatta (The Guy She Was
Interested In Wasn't a Guy at All), setting its official premiere for January
8.
The
production did not skimp on talent to bring this story to animation. The
project is in charge of the prestigious CloverWorks studio, with the
direction of Masashi Ishihama, remembered for his impeccable work in
series such as Horimiya. The supervision and writing of the scripts is
in the hands of Rino Yamazaki, while Kanna Hirayama is in charge
of the design of the characters. As if that were not enough, the soundtrack
holds an incredible gem for grunge lovers, since the opening theme will be none
other than the song Breed by the legendary band Nirvana,
originally released in 1991.
In the cast
section, the protagonists come to life through Akari Kito in the role of
Aya Osawa and Mariya Ise as Mitsuki Koga. They are joined by prominent
names in the supporting voices such as Kenjiro Tsuda playing Jo and Tasuku
Hatanaka as Narita, who reprise their roles from the previous audio drama.
In addition, Yurina Amami as Chizuru, Fairouz Ai giving voice to
Mao and Maiko Nomura as Kanna, with musical compositions by Kosuke Noma
and Takayuki "Kojiro" Sasaki, are integrated.
Ki ni
Natteru Hito ga Otoko Janakatta is a manga written and illustrated by Sumiko Arai. The story
began its publication independently on social media in April 2022, gaining
massive popularity almost immediately thanks to its neon green aesthetic and
curated music selection. A year later, in April 2023, he made the leap to the
pixiv platform with the Kadokawa publishing house, accumulating four compilation
volumes to date.
The plot
introduces us to Aya, a sociable and fashionable girl who falls in love at
first sight with the manager of a rock record store because of his mysterious
style. However, the boy is actually Mitsuki, her reserved classmate at the high
school. Although revealing the truth is almost impossible for Mitsuki at first,
the closeness between the two will soon give way to a unique connection united
by music.
