Every game
has an end level and the path of the unluckiest gamer in real life is about to
be completed. Author Yuuki Yaku confirmed through his official channels that
the acclaimed light novel series Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun (Bottom-Tier
Character Tomozaki) will reach its final conclusion with the publication of
its twelfth volume, scheduled for release on October 16.
The most
striking thing about this announcement is that the decision was not imposed by
the publisher. According to what Yaku revealed, the company had approved the
possibility of expanding the narrative with a volume 13 and 14. However, the
writer chose to reject that option to conclude in volume 12, assuring that he
had already found the definitive answer for the main story of his characters
and that the most honest thing for readers was not to stretch the plot
unnecessarily.
The series
began its journey in May 2016 under the Gagaga Bunko imprint of the Shogakukan
publishing house, with the beautiful illustrations of Fly. The work was a
resounding success in both critics and sales, exceeding one million copies in
circulation and remaining consecutively for five years in the top 10 of the
prestigious Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! ranking.
Over the
years, the franchise expanded its scope with manga adaptations illustrated by
Eight Chida, as well as a spin-off story focused on Minami Nanami by Bana
Yoshida. In the field of animation, the Project No.9 studio produced its first
season in early 2021, followed by a second season titled 2nd Stage aired
in early 2024.
Jaku-Chara
Tomozaki-kun is a
romantic comedy and personal development film written by Yuuki Yaku and
illustrated by Fly. The story follows Fumiya Tomozaki, one of Japan's
best players in the fighting video game Tackfam, who in real life is a
lonely and insecure high school student who considers life to be an unfair and
poorly designed game. Everything changes when she meets Aoi Hinami, the most
popular and bright girl in her school, who shows her that life is simply a game
with complex rules but achievable if she is trained properly, becoming her
tutor to teach her the social dynamics of the real world.
