Drawing
manga at a professional pace is a titanic task that takes a huge toll on the
body, and this time it was the team behind one of the most beloved fantasy and
action franchises to live the worst part. The Shonen Jump+ platform officially
confirmed that the manga Chained Soldier (Mato Seihei no Slave)
is going on an indefinite hiatus due to serious health problems of its
illustrator, Yohei Takemura.
Takemura
himself explained the delicate situation he is going through through a message
to readers. The artist suffered a severe injury to his right wrist since last
June, suffering damage to the fibrocartilage. Despite the pain, the illustrator
tried to continue drawing using a support wristband, but the continuous effort
only worsened the discomfort and prevented his body from healing. Requiring a
long, pressure-free period of rest to fully recover, the decision was made to
slow down drafts and stop work on site.
The
editorial department of Shonen Jump+ said that the series is scheduled to
return on November 14. However, the absolute priority is Takemura's health, so
the future release pace will be calmly defined together with screenwriter
Takahiro and strictly following medical recommendations.
Chained
Soldier is a
fantasy, action, and ecsi manga series written by Takahiro and
illustrated by Yohei Takemura. The work began serialization on
Shueisha's Shueisha Shonen Jump+ digital service in January 2019, quickly
becoming a massive success thanks to its combination of dynamic combat and
dynamic service for readers.
The plot
places us in a world where demonic portals have released destructive creatures
known as Shuki. To combat them, humanity discovers that the fruit of a special
peach tree grants superhuman powers, although with a unique condition: only
women can receive them. In the midst of this society, the young Yuki Wakura
ends up becoming the slave and servant of Kyoka Uzen, the captain of the
Seventh Anti-demon Squad, using their bond to transform into a powerful
fighting beast.
