In an extra note made in volume 14 of the Overlord light novels which went on sale on March 12, the Japanese author Kugane Maruyama confirmed that the literary series will come to an end in volume 17.

Previously, the author himself had made some statements on his official Twitter account as well as in some anime conventions held in 2019 that he was going to advance the end of his series because his work has been the victim of piracy in various parts of the country. The world, however, was left with an uncertainty as to whether this had been jokingly mentioned or whether this statement was absolute.

Overlord's light novel was first published in Japan by Kadokawa Enterbrain in 2010 with illustrations by So bin and currently has 14 compilation volumes. In addition to the main novel, there was an adaptation to the manga written by Hugin Mirayama and illustrated by Satoshi Oshio in Kadokawa Shoten's Comp Ace magazine.

Overlord was also adapted into the anime by the Madhouse studio and currently has 3 seasons aired, each with 13 episodes. The first season was broadcast between July and September 2015, which was later joined by an OVA released in September 2017 titled Overlord Ple Ple Pleiades. The second and third seasons were broadcast in 2018. All are available through the Crunchyroll platform.
