Shueisha wins the case against the administrator of a hacking website

The Shueisha publisher announced that the Xuhui District Public Court in Shanghai has ruled in favor of the publisher and sentenced the administrator of a Chinese website for the illegal uploading and distribution of Shueisha manga online.

The court sentenced the administrator to three years in prison, although the sentence will be suspended in three years (this means that the prison sentence will not be carried out unless the sentenced person commits any other crime in the next three years). The court also fined the sentenced 80,000 yuan (approximately 1.2 million yen or $ 11,000).

However, in addition to this criminal case, the Shueisha publishing house also seeks to repair the damages caused through a Civil Court. The defendant admitted the charges, wrote a letter of apology, and agreed to pay Shueisha's damages.

His site was opened in 2013 and he began publishing serialized manga translated scans into Chinese language in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, days before its paper publication, every week. The site earned remuneration through advertising and had more than 400,000 members. The site administrator's arrest was made on October 30.
