A leak by a well-known Japanese user revealed that the premiere of the movie Gekijouban Pocket Monster Koko (Pokémon Coco), the twenty-third film production of the Pokémon franchise, will be delayed until the next winter season.

The film had previously announced that its release date, originally scheduled for July 10, would be delayed due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on production, however, it had only been announced as an indefinite delay.

This is the first animated film in two years, with the most recent being Pokémon Detective Pikachu (a live-action film) and Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution (a 3D CG remake of the 1998 film).

Production team

  • Tetsuo Yajima (Pokémon: Minna no Monogatari) is directing the feature film at OLM Studios.
  • Atsuhiro Tomiokase is in charge of writing and supervising the series scripts.
  • TOHO is in charge of distribution.
  • Hirotaka Marufuji (Pokémon: Minna no Monogatari) is in charge of character design, and also serves as chief animation director in conjunction with Yasushi Nishitani.
  • Masafumi Mima is in charge of sound direction.
Synopsis

Coco is a boy who was raised by the Pokémon deep in a forest, far from human settlements.

There, in the Okoya forest, a paradise full of Pokémon is protected so that the greedy do not enter and disturb the tranquility of the place. The Coco boy was brought there by the mysterious Pokémon Zarude.

Coco believes he is a Pokémon and is happy when he meets Ash and Pikachu, as he will make his first "human friend". But the peace of the forest will be threatened, and both humans and Pokémon must test their trust in each other.
