It was announced on the official Twitter account for the Anime Expo Lite event that the video game developed by Square Enix, The World Ends With You (abbreviated as TWEWY) will inspire an anime adaptation. The company will reveal the production details during the Anime Expo Lite virtual convention, which will be held on July 3 and 4.
Jupiter and Square Enix developed the game, which was released for the Nintendo DS console in Japan in 2007, and in the West in 2008. Later, a game for smartphones entitled The World End With You: Solo Remix was released, developed by hand and released for iOS devices in 2012, and for Android in 2014.
Synopsis of The World Ends With You
The story unfolds in a fictionalized version of the Shibuya district of Tokyo. While normal life unfolds in the "real world" (known as the "RealGround" or "RG"), a select few from the dead are transported into a parallel world known as the "UnderGround". This is where a game known as the "Reapers Game" is played.
The prize for winning in this game is to come back to life or ascend to a higher rank in the spirit world, and to participate the dead must surrender their most precious possession.
