In this year's 35th issue of Kodansha Publishing Young Magazine, it was announced that author Rensuke Oshikiri (Hi Score Girl) will publish a new one-shot manga titled “DKS40” in the next issue of the magazine, the August 3rd.
This one-shot manga is part of a project for the fortieth anniversary of the magazine titled “Wagaman”, which includes a series of six one-shots published by different authors, with “DKS40” being the fourth of them.
Oshikiri is also the author of the Hi Score Girl manga, which she published in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan magazine between October 2010 and September 2018. The publisher compiled the work in a total of ten volumes.
This manga inspired a twelve episode anime adaptation produced by J.C. Studios. Staff in collaboration with SMDE, under the direction of Yoshiki Yamakawa and scripts written by Tatsuhiko Urahata, released in July 2018. A second season of nine episodes premiered in October 2019.
Hi Score Girl Synopsis
The story begins in 1991 during the height of the 2D fighting game boom. Sixth grader Haruo spends most of the day in a game room in the seedy part of town, oblivious to the world around him. However, one day in his usual game room, he meets Akira, his classmate with good grades and money. She may seem out of place in the game room, but she's actually a first-class player. Akira completely beats Haruo in a round of Street Fighter II. Their relationship begins to develop from this improbable encounter.
