The manga written and illustrated by Yellow Tanabe , Kekkaishi , is reported to have exceeded 17 million copies in circulation accumulated in its 35 published compilation volumes.

Tanabe published the manga in Shogakukan publisher Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine between May 2003 and April 2011. The publisher compiled the work in a total of 35 volumes.
The manga inspired a 52-episode anime adaptation produced by Sunrise Studios , directed by Kenji Kodama and screenplays written by Hiroshi Ohnogi , released in October 2006.

Kekkaishi Synopsis

Yoshimura Sumimura comes from a legacy of "Kekkaishi", individuals with supernatural abilities who are capable of destroying evil creatures known as "Ayakashi" who venture into the human world from time to time. The Ayakashi are demons who seek to appropriate the power that emanates from the land of Karasumori, which turns out to be the place where the school Yoshimura attends is located. Now Yoshimura will have to fight to defend both her school and her hometown. Although, if it were up to him, he'd actually rather be baking cakes than fighting horrible creatures at night.
