Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu publishes a mysterious message for the Tanabata

For the first time in a long time, the official site for the anime adaptation of light novels written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, was updated with a new message commemorating the Tanabata festival.

On the official site there is a link that says “七夕 緊急 ミ ー テ ィ ン グ!” (Emergency Meeting by the Tanabata), when the user clicks on it, it is sent to a second page with the track “Tanzaku no Mukou ni” being hummed by a voice similar to Aya Hirano's, the voice of Haruhi Suzumiya. If the user remains on the site they will be redirected to a new address with the actual version of the track. So far the meaning behind this message has not been revealed, although some assume that it could involve the development of a new project.

One of the most accepted theories that try to explain the reason for this message is the events that occurred in the third volume of the novels (released in 2004) and titled "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody". In this volume, in one of the chapters Haruhi and the other members of the SOS Brigade write their wishes they want to be fulfilled in 16 and 25 years, referring to the theory of relativity. This year 2020 is the 16th birthday, so one of these wishes should be fulfilled then.

For their part, Tanigawa and Ito published the light novels through the Kadokawa publishing house between 2003 and 2011 with a total of eleven volumes. The work inspired an anime adaptation of fourteen episodes (28 on the broadcast) produced by Kyoto Animation studios, under the direction of Tatsuya Ishihara and scripts written by Yasuhiro Takemoto, released in April 2006.

Synopsis for Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

Kyon, the typical high school student, has never believed in the supernatural. However, after meeting Haruhi Suzumiya, he quickly realizes that he is quite interested in topics like aliens, time travelers, and special powers. While Haruhi laments over the lack of interesting things at school, Kyon inspires her to form her own club. This results in the creation of the "SOS Brigade", a club that specializes in the search for the supernatural.

Much to her regret, Kyon, along with bookworm Yuki Nagato, shy Mikuru Asahina, and smiling Itsuki Koizumi, are recruited as the first members of the club.
