Hideaki Anno's live-action film Shin Ultraman will arrive in 2021

The production team for the new live-action film in the Shin Ultraman franchise, produced by Studio Khara, confirmed that the film is scheduled to premiere in Japan for the summer 2021 season. The announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the Sukagawa Archives Center in Fukushima Prefecture.





Additionally, a 1/33 scale statue of Shin Ultraman approximately two meters tall was revealed in the center during the ceremony. In fact, during the opening ceremony of the event “Tsuburaya Convention 2019” the first image of the Shin Ultraman was presented, in December 2019. In that design, the Ultraman character no longer uses a color timer.

A draft of the script was completed on February 5, 2019, and since then Anno began to focus on the film Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon a Time (Shin Evangelion Gekijou-ban: ||), the new Studio Khara production that It is now scheduled for January 23, 2021.

Takumi Saitou as the protagonist, the man who can transform into Ultraman.

Production team

Shinji Higuchi is in charge of directing the feature film, assisted by Associate Director Katsuro Onoue and his “Higuchi-Gumi” team.
Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) is in charge of planning, writing and supervising the project scripts.
