In the first edition of the 2021 issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Dragon Age magazine, it was revealed that the manga written and illustrated by Shouji Satou, Triage X, "has entered its final battle".
Previously Satou had stated in an interview in 2018 that he planned to finish the work with the twenty-first compilation volume, however, this volume was released on July 9 without specific notes. In this regard, Satou simply stated: "I think there was an interview where I said that the manga would end in volume 21, but it didn't!
Satou began publishing the manga in Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine in April 2009. The publisher published the 20th volume of the compilation on January 9th, followed by the 21st volume on July 9th. The work inspired a ten-episode anime adaptation produced by Xebec Studios, under the direction of Akio Takami and scripts written by Katsuhiko Takayama, released in April 2015.
