Through his Twitter account, the author of manga such as Kaguya-sama: Love is War and Oshi no Ko, Aka Akasaka, published an update on the use of gal girls in manga: «Sometimes I have read opinions like“ no gal girls are nice to nerds. " Nerds are "greeted" and that is commonly mistaken for "kindness", but it is only an act of courtesy. Still, it seems that the character archetype of "girl who talks to everyone without qualms" is one of the most beloved by otaku, although it is not something real. "

It is worth mentioning that the gal / gyaru (ギ ャ ル) are a subculture of girls in Japan who are characterized by caring mainly about their beauty, taking care of their wardrobe, makeup, nails, etc. in detail. This subculture has been on the decline given the strict dress codes in school, which has limited adolescents to expressing their beauty outside of the classroom.

Akasaka began publishing the manga in Shueisha publisher's Miracle Jump magazine in May 2015, and moved it to Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2016. The publisher published the 20th compiled volume on November 19 in Japan. The work has entered its "home stretch" according to recent statements by the author.

The work has inspired two anime adaptations released in January 2019 and April 2020, respectively, produced by A-1 Pictures studios. The production of an OVA for the year 2021 and a third season for a date not yet specified are confirmed.
