Last March 6 in Japan, the anime adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama, Detective Conan (Meitantei Conan), aired its 1,000th episode. This chapter was a reboot of the episode series "The Piano Sonata/Moonlight Murder Case".
According to statistics, Detective Conan is the sixth series of twenty-four-minute episodes to reach one thousand episodes aired, while it is the sixteenth series to achieve this goal counting all those produced (also including short films between five and ten minutes long per episode).
Aoyama has been publishing manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine since January 1994, with a total of 98 compilation volumes published to date. In addition to a large number of movies and OVAs, the work is inspiring an anime adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment studios, which has been airing since January 1996.
Synopsis of Detective Conan
The manga series centers on Conan Edogawa, the alias of detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body shrank after being poisoned at the beginning of the story. Together with Detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan helps the police solve difficult mysteries.
The Detective Conan manga has been published since 1994 and in August became the first Weekly Shonen Sunday series to publish its 1,000th chapter. The manga has inspired an ongoing anime series, and an annual series of anime movies. The 22nd film in the franchise, Meitantei Conan Zero no Shikkōnin (Detective Conan: Executioner of Zero), was released in Japan on April 13 and became the highest grossing film in the franchise's history. Aoyama's various manga series have a total of 200 million copies in print worldwide.
