In this year's 13th issue of Kodansha 's Weekly Shonen Magazine , the final chapter of the manga written and illustrated by Atsushi Ohkubo , Enen no Shouboutai ( Fire Force ), was published. On the final page of the manga, a note from the editorial department asked fans to " look forward to Atsushi Ohkubo's next work ."
However, Ohkubo had stated in May 2020, in the twenty-third compiled book volume of the manga, that " the story was in its final stretch, and for me, I plan to make this my last manga, so please stay with me until the end. " “, so the statements do not match. Many manga magazines use this common phrase every time a manga ends, so it is currently unclear if Ohkubo will actually release another work in the future.
In the same magazine it was also announced that there will soon be an "important announcement" for the franchise, confirming the previous leak. In the final chapter of the manga, it is implied in the story and through the final English words " Next is Soul World " that the manga is connected to Ohkubo's other manga, Soul Eater , as its own prequel.
On the other hand, Ohkubo published the manga in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine between September 2015 and February 2022. The work inspired a twenty-four-episode anime adaptation produced by David Production studios , which premiered in July 2019. A second season also of twenty-four episodes was broadcast during the Summer-2020 season, specifically from July 3 in Japan. The Funimation platform distributes the series in the West, and produced a Spanish dub of both seasons.
Synopsis for Fire Force
Terror has paralyzed the inhabitants of Tokyo after a phenomenon known as "spontaneous combustion" began to turn its inhabitants into a kind of fiery demons called hellions. Despite this, some people are able to handle flames and maintain their human form, thus giving them special abilities that divide them into first, second, and third generation pyrokinetics. Within this chaos, our protagonist Shinra Kusakabe, a third generation pyrokinetic, joins the Eighth Company of the Fire Force Special Unit, which seeks to discover the truth behind the phenomenon of human combustion.
