Following
the previous announcement of two "Girls Band Cry" compilation films , which hinted at a similar
path to that taken by "Bocchi the Rock!" at the time, more important
details have now been revealed, continuing to increase the hype among fans of
the musical anime.
As reported
through the anime's official website, the two films will be titled " Seishun
Kyousoukyoku (Rhapsody of Youth) " and " Naa, Mirai.
(Hey, Future.) ", and both will feature the returning original
cast and crew. Confirmed voice actors include Rina as Nina
Iseri, Yuri as Momoka Kawaragi, Mirei as
Subaru Awa, Natsu as Tomo Ebizuka, and Syuri as
Rupa.
As for the
production team, Kazuo Sakai (known for Love Live! Sunshine!!
and Mushi-Uta) returns as director under the Toei Animation
studio. Jukki Hanada , who also worked on Love Live! Sunshine!!,
is writing the scripts, while N ari Teshima returns as
character designer. On the music side, producer Kenji Tamai will
once again be in charge of the insert songs, and Yuusuke Tanaka (of
agehasprings) will be in charge of the background music. Additionally, Jae
Hoon Jung is once again leading the computer animation, this time
joined by a new CG director, Daiki Nakazawa .
Finally,
it was confirmed that the first film, Seishun Kyousoukyoku, will premiere on
October 3, while the second, Naa, Mirai, will hit theaters on November 14. Both will be distributed by
Toei. With this announcement, it's clear that "Girls Band Cry"
continues to consolidate itself as one of the most interesting offerings within
the girl band music genre, and many are already looking forward to what could
be new projects beyond these films.
Will
this be a prelude to a sequel? Only time will tell. And of course, don't forget to check out
the franchise details below:
- The anime's story centers on
several girls going through difficult times: the protagonist drops out of
high school in her second year and moves to Tokyo alone with the intention
of attending university; another girl is betrayed by her friends and feels
lost; while yet another is abandoned by her parents and struggles to
survive working part-time jobs. In the midst of a world that
constantly disappoints them, they all search for something they can still
love, a place to belong... and that's why they sing.
- The anime premiered on
television in April 2024 with a total of 13 episodes. Toei Animation
subsequently released the English version digitally in North America on
August 13, and Crunchyroll began streaming it on November 6.
- In July of last year, the
production team announced that Mirei and Natsu, two of the main cast
members, would be going on a temporary hiatus for health reasons. Meanwhile, Rina, Yuri,
and Syuri will continue their franchise-related activities.
