Following the airing of the eighth episode of the anime adaptation of the video game NieR: Automata , it was announced that the series will once again enter an indefinite suspension due to production problems stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the press release, the resumption date of the series will be informed as soon as it is decided by Aniplex and A-1 Pictures studios.
It should be noted that this is the second time that the series will go on indefinite suspension due to production issues due to COVID-19, however, some claim that this is not the actual reason for the suspension. According to “other unconfirmed sources”, it appears that many Aniplex productions are facing extremely tight production schedules, leading to looming production issues. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic is still an excuse for production companies in Japan.
The series has been broadcast since January 7, without yet officially confirming the number of episodes it will have, while the Crunchyroll platform is in charge of its distribution in the West.
