On the official site for the anime adaptation of the light novels written by Sametarou Fukada and illustrated by Sakura Miwabe , I Picked Up a Rich Girl Whose Betrothal was Canceled and Teach Her to Be Naughty ( Konyaku Haki sareta Reijou wo Hirotta Ore ga, Ikenai Koto wo Oshiekomu ), the first promotional video for the project has been revealed. The video confirms the production details and confirms that the premiere is scheduled for the Fall-2023 (October-December) season in Japan.
Fukada began publishing the novels through the independent service Shousetsuka ni Narou in August 2019, where it is published to date. The publisher Shufu to Seikatsu Sha has published the light novels on paper with illustrations by Sakura Miwabe since March 2020, while a manga adaptation by Ichiho Katsura has been published on the Pash Up! service. since 2020.

The novels focus on Allen, an unsociable sorcerer living deep in the woods, who stumbles upon a girl named Charlotte who has gone missing. She explains that she fled her hometown when her engagement was called off after being falsely accused of a crime. Thinking back to her own youth, when he was betrayed and thrown out of a group of adventurers, Allen decides to help the girl and teach her naughty things... like enjoying food, playing games and staying up all night.
