We have previously published articles covering the results of the surveys of GEM Partners , a Japanese site that evaluates (through these surveys) which are the most watched series on streaming services in Japan. This survey is conducted on the Internet of around 7,000 people between the ages of 15 and 69 , which is not quite a significant figure considering that other outlets like Anime Trending and Anime Corner have the same or even more engagement online.
Well, the results of GEM Partners are often shared as "absolute truths" by some media, which has caused a misconception among anime fans. Some believe that the reports in this medium reflect the situation of the industry and show what are the series that are being watched the most at the moment in Japan, but the reality is that 7,000 people surveyed online is not really relevant.
Anyway, it is still worth covering these results from time to time, especially when there is a change between trends. You could say that GEM Partners is like “Japan Anime Trending”, and as long as you specify that your results come from surveys and not actual numbers from streaming services, you won't be lying.
This is how we got to what brings us together today, since GEM Partners revealed in its most recent list (corresponding to the week from May 27 to June 2), that Kimetsu no Yaiba was the most voted series by fans. Japanese, followed by Oshi no Ko and Detective Conan , respectively.
- In fact, the statement explains: « The Top 3 remains unchanged for four consecutive weeks and continues to be dominated by anime series. First place went to Kimetsu no Yaiba, who has held this position for eight consecutive weeks. The third season premiered on April 10 and the number of votes increased from 237 last week to 262 this week, staying above 200 for seven consecutive weeks ».
- « Next, the second place goes to “Oshi no Ko”, which has held this position for four consecutive weeks . The original work is a manga of the same name that runs in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine and Shueisha's Shonen Jump Plus service. The number of votes decreased a bit from 181 last week to 173 this week ».
- « Finally in third place comes “Detective Conan”, which has remained in this position for four consecutive weeks. Celebrating the release of the new movie on April 14, many streaming services are distributing the previous movies in the franchise. The number of votes went almost unchanged from 107 last week to 111 this week ».
