Definitely the decision to cancel the production of the
“ Yuri!!!”
movie. on ICE ” by the MAPPA studies is quite
questionable. The series released in 2016 became the first success of the MAPPA
studios, as CEO Manabu Otsuka stated in a previous interview:
- « We
had a complex because we had not had any success and we did not have the
formula to make them. The first time we had any fruit of success
was with Yuri!!! on ICE, and the destiny of MAPPA as a company changed at
that time », He commented at the time.
However, the same CEO also assured that the
level of success that “Yuri!!!” had. on ICE” was not reflected in the profits
for MAPPA. It was precisely this situation that motivated MAPPA
to produce series financed by itself, instead of resorting to a production
committee. The theory was that if MAPPA is the only member of the
committee, the profits would go directly to the studio. However, this
also means that MAPPA takes full responsibility for the financing of the
project. The first such experiment for MAPPA was “Chainsaw Man,” but
they haven't repeated it since.
But the cancellation of the “Yuri!!!” movie on
ICE”, which also implies the definitive end of the franchise (unless
the intellectual property is sold to a third party), was already seen
coming since Fuko Noda, producer of the original 2016 series, recently
left the company to work now at Chocolat Inc., another studio in Japan. The
departure of this key member (along with other important members who have left
MAPPA one after another) was definitely the final nail in the coffin of “ Yuri!!!
on ICE .
It's always a shame when a franchise completely
disappears for these kinds of reasons , especially one as
important as “Yuri!!! on ICE”, which made the name of MAPPA relevant within the
anime industry, but now another question arises, what other franchise
could be in the same danger?
And of course, there was no shortage of reactions:
- " I
still don't understand why it took them so long to announce it even though
it was obvious ."
- « Imagine
being a Yuri fan!!! on ICE and wait seven years for the continuation of
your favorite series, only for it to be cancelled. In itself it was
strange that MAPPA never gave any indication of production .
- « It
took them like seven years to cancel Yuri!!! on ICE, they are sons of
bitches .
- « I
take this opportunity to condemn, from the bottom of my soul and my
viscera, the MAPPA study. Damn you MAPPA studio! ».
- " Thank
God I don't live in Japan because I would go to their office doors at
night and screw up the door ."
- « And
with my last breath, I curse you, I study MAPPA ».
- « MAPPA,
I hate you. Yuri!!! on ICE made you known in the anime industry and that's
how you appreciate it, son of a bitch .
- « I
neither forget nor forgive when Crunchyroll awarded Yuri multiple times!!!
on ICE on top of My Hero Academy, Mob Psycho 100, Re:ZERO and JoJo's
Bizarre Adventure ».
- « Wow,
at least MAPPA already deigned to confirm the cancellation of the film.
Years without saying anything and I think it was already fair for the fans .
- « For
Yuri!!! on ICE they swallow all of MAPPA, yours in vinegar. I hope they
never find the cold side of her pillow in summer, damn them .
- " I
hope MAPPA goes bankrupt again to see which ice skaters save their asses ."
- « I
didn't see Yuri!!! on ICE, but what MAPPA did is vile shit, considering
that it was the anime that made them known to the world. They should have
given him different treatment, he knows that his decision will not go
unnoticed .
- « Yuri!!!
on ICE paid for years the electricity, water, internet and other bills of
all the damn people who work at MAPPA. Look me in the eyes when I talk to
you! ».
- « Go
to the stressed shell of your fucking mother MAPPA, Yuri!!! on ICE made
you be in the place you are now .
- « What
sons of a thousand bitches, literally the faggots saved their company and
now they erase them from existence. Seven years to announce that it is
cancelled, I want to kill them .
- " These
sons of bitches forgot that gays were the ones who took them out of
misery, ungrateful shit ."
