Definitely the decision to cancel the production of the
“ Yuri!!!”
movie. on ICE ” by the MAPPA studies is quite
questionable. The series released in 2016 became the first success of the MAPPA
studios, as CEO Manabu Otsuka stated in a previous interview:

However, the same CEO also assured that the

for MAPPA. It was precisely this situation that motivated MAPPA
to produce series financed by itself, instead of resorting to a production
committee. The theory was that if MAPPA is the only member of the
committee, the profits would go directly to the studio. However, this
also means that MAPPA takes full responsibility for the financing of the
project. The first such experiment for MAPPA was “Chainsaw Man,” but
they haven't repeated it since.
But the cancellation of the “Yuri!!!” movie on
ICE”, which also implies the definitive end of the franchise (unless
the intellectual property is sold to a third party), was already seen
coming since Fuko Noda, producer of the original 2016 series, recently
left the company to work now at Chocolat Inc., another studio in Japan. The
departure of this key member (along with other important members who have left
MAPPA one after another) was definitely the final nail in the coffin of “ Yuri!!!
on ICE .
It's always a shame when a franchise completely
disappears for these kinds of reasons , especially one as
important as “Yuri!!! on ICE”, which made the name of MAPPA relevant within the
anime industry, but now another question arises, what other franchise
could be in the same danger?
