On the official site for the original franchise “ Yuri!!! on Ice ”
it was announced the cancellation of the production of the movie “ Yuri!!!
on Ice The Movie: Ice Adolescence ”, announced in 2017 and postponed
multiple times. In its statement, the production in charge of MAPPA studios apologized
for the situation:
- Thank
you for your continued support of “Yuri!!! on Ice.” We would like
to inform you that the postponed production of “Yuri!!! on Ice The Movie:
Ice Adolescence”, whose release has been postponed, has been cancelled. We
sincerely apologize for not having been able to meet the expectations of
those who have continued to encourage us during the years of waiting.
- The
production committee and staff have continued repeated discussions and
adjustments to create this film and deliver it to you, but due to various
circumstances we have decided that we have no choice but to abandon
production. We would like to sincerely apologize to everyone who
had been impatiently awaiting the release of this film.
The original series was produced by MAPPA studios ,
written and directed by Sayo Yamamoto with original scripts
by Mitsurou Kubo under production by Jun Shishido .
The character designs were provided by Tadashi Hiramatsu , and
the music was composed by Taro Umebayashi and Taku
Matsushiba . The production also featured the participation of Kenji
Miyamoto , a professional skater, in charge of the choreography, who
also did the same routines for recording the sounds.
After the original broadcast of the anime, an animated film
titled “ Yuri!!! on Ice The Movie: Ice Adolescence ” was
announced to be released in 2019, but was delayed multiple times until its
eventual cancellation. The work also has multiple manga adaptations and awards,
winning three awards at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival , one
award at the Japan Character Award , seven awards at the Crunchyroll
Anime Awards and being awarded as one of the twenty-five best anime
productions of the last decade.
Synopsis of Yuri!!! on Ice
After his crushing defeat in the Grand Prix
final, Yuuri Katsuki, once Japan's most promising figure skater, returns to his
family home to evaluate his options for the future. At the age of 23, Yuuri's
chances of success in skating are rapidly closing, and her fondness for pork
chops and her aptitude for gaining weight from it don't help either. However,
Yuuri finds himself in the spotlight when a video of him performing a routine
previously performed by five-time world champion Victor Nikiforov suddenly goes
viral. In fact, Victor himself abruptly appears at Yuuri's house and offers to
mentor him. Yuuri, who is one of his biggest fans, enthusiastically accepts,
thus beginning his journey to return to the world stage. But the competition is
fierce, as Russia's rising star, Yuri Plisetsky, is relentlessly determined to
defeat Yuuri and regain Victor's guardianship.
