Recently, an
alleged photograph showing a derogatory message towards female cosplayers
became a trend on social networks. The photograph , which
shows a girl in an extremely revealing cosplay, also shows that she is
standing next to a sign that invites New York Comic Con attendees to “freely
abuse female cosplayers” during the event :
- « COSPLAY == FREE SEX
– All the female cosplayers at this year's New York Comic Con are
prostitutes. They have been paid for with the price of admission and their
use is free. Not all NYCC fans are prostitutes, so be respectful and use
cosplayers only for sex. Thanks and have fun! ».
The
photograph took many by surprise and went viral almost immediately, adding
millions of interactions and comments from the community. Fortunately, Twitter
already has an option to “add context” to a misleading post and it soon became
the target. Thus it was finally confirmed that this photograph is an
edition and that, in reality, the original poster sought to promote respect
towards female cosplayers:
- « COSPLAY IS NOT
CONSENT – Please do not touch anyone. If you want to take a photo with
another NYCC fan, ask them first and respect their right to refuse. When
you are at New York Comic Con, be respectful, friendly, calm and kind to
others .
It is
common during these conventions for female cosplayers to become the center of
attention, and although this is precisely their goal, they are always in danger
of a pervert being among the audience. There are more than constant cases where a subject
takes photographs from under the cosplayer's skirt or even tries to grope her,
taking advantage of the crowd. Many female cosplayers now have to “be on guard”
whenever they attend an event of this nature.
And
although this viral post eventually ended up as a joke, it didn't seem funny to
those female cosplayers who had been sexually assaulted during an event for
simply wearing a cosplay. And of course, there were also comments from people who completely
believed the false message:
- " This is real? ».
- « The fact that people
believe this is real shows that no one does research on their own anymore.
They simply believe the first thing they see on the Internet, and that
seems pathetic to me .
- « Ironically the girl in
the photograph makes, or perhaps used to make, amateur adult videos. This
photograph was long before OnlyFans, she simply uploaded them directly to
the Internet .
- " It's amazing how
compelling the editions are today ."
- « Anime culture went to
hell in just 3 years. Now it is only full of subjects who are potential
sexual offenders .
- « The edition is old,
but it will always be viral when someone publishes it on social networks .»
- « This is a way to
increase the number of attendees at the event .»
- « What a pity I can't
afford to go, the plane ticket is quite expensive .»
- « In fact, these types
of conventions are heaven for aspiring porn actresses and OnlyFans girls
who want to get attention .»
- « I have to book my
ticket to New York right now if this becomes real .»
- « For those interested,
the girl in the photograph is Emily Gort. And yes, she was uploading porn
videos on the Internet when she posed for this photograph .
