The official Twitter account for the “ Tokyo Ghoul ” anime has sparked excitement and speculation among its fans by hinting at a major announcement scheduled for July 3, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. (Japan Time) , as part of the series’ 10th anniversary celebration. The post included a short 20-second video that showed a montage of scenes from the original anime, prompting fans to take to social media to express their hopes and theories about the announcement.

Most fans are looking forward to the announcement of a full remake of the anime series, one that closely follows the plot of the original manga.
However, many fans are being cautious, as in the past, teasers and announcements for the franchise have resulted in less exciting reveals, such as episodes being posted for free on YouTube instead of new content. In addition to a possible remake, speculation also includes a new Blu-ray collection, possibly with remastered episodes and additional content, or even a simple digital re-release.

“ Tokyo Ghoul ” is an anime series produced by Pierrot based on the manga of the same name created by Sui Ishida . The first season aired from July to September 2014. A second season, titled “ Tokyo Ghoul √A ”, aired from January to March 2015. The third and final season, titled “ Tokyo Ghoul: Re ”, aired from April to December 2018 in two parts. The manga ran in Shueisha’s seinen manga magazine Weekly Young Jump from September 2011 to September 2014, with a total of 14 compiled book volumes.

One of the biggest criticisms of the anime adaptation of “Tokyo Ghoul” was the drastic change in the story during the second season. Unlike the first season, which closely followed the manga’s plot, the second season took a completely different direction. Instead of continuing the original plot, the anime introduced elements and events that were not present in the manga, which caused confusion and discontent among fans. This change not only altered the development of the characters, but also affected the sequence of crucial events, creating significant inconsistencies with Sui Ishida’s original work.

This narrative departure is one of the reasons why many fans are eagerly awaiting a faithful manga remake. They want to see an adaptation that does justice to the complexity and depth of the original story, something they feel the anime series failed to fully capture. With the announcement coming soon and expectations at an all-time high, we can only wait and see what surprises Tokyo Ghoul has in store for its 10th anniversary.
