Popular entertainment outlet Crunchyroll recently
interviewed Pascal Charrue , co-founder of French
studios Fortiche , responsible for the hit anime “ Arcane ,
” based on the “League of Legends” franchise . During the
interview, Charrue made a statement that quickly became a trend: he expressed
his interest in adapting the iconic manga “ Vagabond ” by Takehiko
Inoue .
In the interview, when asked which manga he would
like to adapt into animation with his team, Charrue responded:
- That
is a difficult question. The first adaptation that comes to mind
would be Takehiko Inoue's Vagabond. It's a masterpiece with incredible
depth and stunning art that would be fascinating to bring to life in
animation. Although Naoki Urasawa's works have already seen
multiple adaptations, they remain a significant source of inspiration for
us.
- When
considering mangas to adapt, it is essential to find those that really
benefit from being animated. I'm often disappointed with some
adaptations due to the simple fact that the pacing of a manga, which you
control as the reader, doesn't always translate well to animation.
“Vagabond” ,
first published in 1998, is a loose adaptation of the novel “Musashi” by
Eiji Yoshikawa, which tells the life of the legendary Japanese swordsman Miyamoto
Musashi . The work is acclaimed for its stunning art and deep
character development, which has made it one of the most respected and beloved
manga series by fans.
However, despite its success and recognition, “Vagabond”
is in a sorry state not because of its quality, but because it has been
suspended since May 2015 . In an interview, Takehiko Inoue revealed
that the main reason he put “ Vagabond ” on
indefinite hiatus is because the overwhelming pressure of making the perfect
series completely drained him of his passion, becoming a chore rather than
something he enjoyed.
The possibility of seeing “Vagabond” adapted
by the talented Fortiche studios has generated a lot of excitement among fans.
Known for their work on “Arcane” , Fortiche has demonstrated a
unique ability to create animations that capture the essence of the original
stories while providing a stunning and dynamic visual style.
Fans of the manga and Fortiche's work eagerly await
more news about this possible adaptation, dreaming of seeing the epic battles
and profound spiritual journey of Miyamoto Musashi come to life on
screen. Meanwhile, the community continues to support Takehiko Inoue,
patiently awaiting his return to the world of “Vagabond.”
