The Japanese media conglomerate KADOKAWA Corporation has recently announced its most profitable franchises for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024 , between April 1 and June 30, 2024. According to the report, the ' Dungeon Meshi ' franchise ( Tragones and Dungeons )' was positioned as the undisputed sales leader in this period , accumulating more than 2 billion yen in revenue. Although Kadokawa did not reveal the exact figure, it has been confirmed that this is the most lucrative series in two key categories: IP creation/publishing (such as mangas and art books) and the anime/movie segment.

'Dungeon Meshi', a manga series written and illustrated by Ryoko Kui, began publication in 2015 under the Kadokawa imprint, and has since gained a growing fan base both in Japan and abroad. The recent anime adaptation in 2024 has further boosted its popularity, making it the most profitable franchise of the quarter for Kadokawa. The sales breakdown shows that the majority of revenue comes from anime, followed by print publications. This success has been largely attributed to the appeal of its unique premise that combines dungeon crawling with gourmet cooking, an approach that has resonated with a global audience.

In second place is the 'KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!' franchise, which generated approximately 1 billion yen in revenue. Although this figure is less than half of what 'Dungeon Meshi' grossed, it remains one of Kadokawa's most beloved and successful franchises, especially thanks to its popular anime adaptation.

'Oshi no Ko', another anime that has been a phenomenon in 2023 and 2024, ranks third in Kadokawa's ranking. However, it is important to note that sales of the manga were not included in the calculation, since the rights belong to a different company. Despite this, the success of its anime adaptation has been enough to ensure it a prominent place among the most profitable franchises.

Even though Kadokawa faced a cyberattack on its Dwango subsidiary earlier this year, the company has seen significant growth in sales, driven largely by the continued success of its most popular franchises. This result reinforces Kadokawa's position as one of the largest media conglomerates in Japan , responsible for the publication of many of the most recognized anime, manga and video games worldwide.
