Renowned mangaka Takehiko Inoue is
known for his detailed and beautiful art in works such as ' Slam Dunk ',
' Vagabond ' and ' REAL '.
This latest manga, focusing on wheelchair basketball and the personal struggles
of its protagonist, Nomiya Tomomi, has captured the attention of the anime
industry. Recently, Yuiichirou Fukushi, a producer at Madhouse studios ,
expressed interest in adapting 'REAL' into an anime series , which has
raised expectations and questions about the feasibility of translating Inoue's
detailed art style to animation.

'REAL' is not a conventional sports
manga; addresses disability issues and the complexities of wheelchair
basketball, which sets it apart within the sports genre. However,
the adaptation of this work represents both an artistic and economic challenge
for any studio that decides to take it on. Takehiko Inoue is renowned for his
realistic, detailed illustrations, characteristics that are infamously
difficult to replicate in animation.
During the MAPPA x Madhouse x CloverWorks
Conference , Fukushi, who has worked on projects such as 'One Punch
Man' and 'Sousou no Frieren', expressed his enthusiasm for bringing
'REAL' to the screen, highlighting Madhouse's intention to capture realistic
the essence of Inoue's art. However, this raises a crucial question:
will it be possible to faithfully translate the visual style of the manga into
animation?
The adaptation of 'REAL' would not only
require a great dedication of resources and skills, but would also involve maintaining
a delicate balance between visual animation and narrative structure, respecting
the original source. This balance could significantly
raise production costs, given the level of detail necessary to do justice to
Inoue's art.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the potential
adaptation, fans are excited at the prospect of seeing 'REAL' come to
life in anime format. If the project comes to fruition and manages to
overcome the obvious challenges, it would be a monumental milestone in the
recreation of Takehiko Inoue's work.
