In an event that promised to be a “ big
announcement ” for fans of the “ Noragami ”
franchise, the final reveal has left many disappointed, especially among
Japanese fans. On August 10, known as “Yato Day” due to the pronunciation of
the numbers in Japanese, a significant announcement was expected to
commemorate the tenth anniversary of the premiere of the anime adaptation .
However, instead of the highly anticipated third season, what was revealed was
a commemorative illustration and other projects related to the series.
The illustration was created by
character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto, and presented in conjunction with a
special drawing by the manga's authors, Adachitoka, showing Yato, Hiyori Iki
and Yukine together. Despite the quality of these
illustrations, the absence of a continuation in the form of a new season of the
anime left a bitter taste among fans.
As part of the initiative, a series of seven projects to celebrate the anniversary, Avex Pictures has announced the free, limited-time streaming of episodes from both seasons of “Noragami” and the theatrical adaptations, through its official channel. . Uncredited versions of the opening and closing videos for “Noragami Aragoto” have also been released. In addition, Animax will dedicate two days, August 17 and 18, to a special marathon of the series and its OVAs.
Another interesting announcement was the
resurrection of the “Yato Denwa” (Yato Telephone), a telephone number that was
enabled during the original broadcast of the series and that allowed the voice
of the god Yato to be heard . This year, in its digital and modernized
version, fans will be able to enjoy the experience again through a special
website. Finally, the cover illustration for the “MEMORIAL Blu-ray BOX” was
also revealed, which will go on sale on October 16, and which portrays the
three main characters in a nostalgic scene.
However, the fan community continues to
wonder: why hasn't a series as popular as “Noragami” received a third season? Despite
its initial success, with a first season in 2014 and a second in 2015, the
franchise has been left in limbo. Theories point to several factors, including
the completion of the manga and the possible lack of enough content to justify
a new season in the years after the second. Additionally, some
speculate that production issues, internal problems at the animation studio, or
preference for other projects could have influenced this decision.
For many, “Noragami” represents a franchise with
enormous potential and a loyal fan base that has waited patiently for years.
However, this “big announcement” seems to have been a painful reminder
that the long-awaited sequel remains a distant dream.
