During the Aniplex Online Fest 2024 event,
director Yasuomi Umetsu , known for his work on “ A
KITE ” and “ MEZZO FORTE ,” has announced his return
with a new original anime project titled “ Virgin Punk ,” in
collaboration with renowned animation studio SHAFT. The first episode of this
series, “Clockwork Girl,” will premiere in summer 2025 in two select theaters
in Japan.

Umetsu, who has received widespread attention both in
Japan and abroad for his work directing the opening and ending sequences of
several anime, returns to the director’s chair after nearly 10 years. He is also
responsible for the original planning and scripting of this series. Shaft, the
studio behind such hits as “Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica” and “Monogatari
Series,” will be in charge of the animation.
During the Aniplex Online Fest 2024 event held on
September 16, a promotional video was released showing some character dialogue,
as well as action sequences with weapons and key terms that will be part of the
anime. Although the cast has not yet been announced, it is expected to
be revealed soon.

Virgin Punk
In “Virgin Punk,” the protagonist, named Ubu, is a
bounty hunter who faces her own dilemmas and a host of intense characters in a
story that explores desire and chaos. The plot depicts Ubu’s suffering and the
chaos woven by the strong characters around her. The promotional visual
includes the line, “Struck by repeated misfortunes, she became a mere shadow of
herself.”
