The latest
issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine published the final
chapter of Tomohito Oda ’s manga , “ Komi-san Can’t Communicate .” The story comes to
an end after nearly nine years of serialization, following a series of story
arcs and a huge cast of characters that make up all of Shouko Komi’s one
hundred friends.
Although the full materials for this final chapter are
not yet available, some fans had a widespread theory that “The 100th Friend”
was always us, the readers. In fact, it would have been a great way to
break the fourth wall and surprise fans. Although the manga didn’t take this
direction in the end, it did give away beautiful illustrations that
served as a farewell to the story of this girl with social problems.
As for the author, he has not yet mentioned what he plans
to do after having concluded this story , but considering the
popularity of the franchise and all the time he kept publishing it in paper, it
is evident that, for the moment, he will want to take some time off while,
perhaps, he begins planning his next work.
On the other hand, Tomohito Oda began
publishing the manga in May 2016 through Shogakukan 's Weekly
Shonen Sunday magazine . The first season aired during the Fall
2021 season (October-December) , followed by a second season in Spring
2022 (April-June) , with production still being conducted by OLM studios
. To date, there is still no confirmation of a third season.
Synopsis of Komi-san Can't Communicate
It’s Shouko Komi’s first day at the prestigious Itan
Private High School, and she’s already become the school’s Madonna. With her
long black hair and tall, elegant appearance, she catches the attention of
anyone who passes her. However, there’s one problem: despite her popularity,
Shouko is terrible at communicating with others. Hitohito Tadano is your
typical high school boy. With his life motto of “reading the situation and
making sure to stay out of trouble,” he quickly discovers that sitting next to
Shouko has made him the enemy of everyone in his class.
One day, having accidentally fainted, Hitohito wakes up
to the sound of Shouko's "meow." He lies that he didn't hear
anything, causing Shouko to run off. But before she can escape, Hitohito
surmises that Shouko is not able to talk to others easily; in fact, she has
never been able to make a single friend. Hitohito decides to help Shouko in her
goal of making a hundred friends so that she can overcome her communication
disorder.
