As we previously reported, “ Colorful
Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can't Sing ” is a new film featuring
an appearance by Hatsune Miku, the virtual diva of Vocaloid .
This is considered by some to be Miku’s first time starring in an anime, and
that’s certainly true considering that most of her previous anime appearances
have been in incidental roles.
Perhaps the fact that this is the first time we've had
Hatsune Miku in a leading role is the reason why the film , which
opened last weekend in Japan, easily surpassed 300 million yen in
revenue from over 23 million admissions. With this, it achieved the
first place in the average revenue per theater during its opening weekend,
quite a feat!
In fact, despite only being shown in 148 theaters (a
considerably low number), the film outperformed other major releases of
the moment, demonstrating the power of the fan base of both the video game
“Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku” and Hatsune Miku herself ,
who is also having her moment of glory in Fortnite.
In case you didn't hear about this film produced by PAWORKS ,
the synopsis writes:
- At
a CD store, Ichika Hoshino listens to a song by Miku that he has never
heard before. On the monitor, he sees a «Hatsune Miku» with a form he has
never seen before, and he couldn't help but say out loud, «Miku?». Miku is
surprised to hear the voice, her eyes meet Ichika's, but she disappears
soon after.
- Later,
after a live performance on the street, the Miku Ichika saw earlier
appears on her smartphone. Miku looks sad and dejected, and when Ichika
quietly asks Miku about her story, she tells Ichika that there are people
she wants to give her songs to, but no matter how much she sings, her
songs don't reach them.
- Miku,
who saw Ichika sing to many people's hearts in her live performances,
thought that if she learns more about Ichika, she will be able to do the
same, and approached Ichika. Ichika smiles at Miku and says, "If
that's okay with me."
