Kakao
Entertainment has officially confirmed that Chugong and DUBU’s “ Solo Leveling ” franchise will be
getting a live-action series adaptation. Although the statement did not
reveal production details, the company confirmed that it is involved in the
planning, development, and, primarily, the writing of the scripts.
It is worth remembering that the creative director of D&C
WEBTOON , Heaeun Kwak , had revealed that a
live-action project of the franchise was in development, but this is the first
time it has been officially confirmed.
For its part, Chugong published the
original novels through KakaoPage between July 2016 and March
2018, with a total of fourteen volumes. A webtoon adaptation was published
since March 2018 through KakaoPage by Jang Sung-rak and
ended in December 2021. An anime adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures premiered
its first season in Winter 2024 (January-March) , followed by
a second season, titled “ Arise from the Shadow ”, currently
airing.
Solo Leveling Synopsis
Ever since a portal appeared that connects our world to
another one filled with monsters and creatures of all kinds, some people have
acquired powers and the ability to hunt them, earning the name of hunters. The
protagonist, Sung Jin-woo, is the weakest of the E-rank hunters and barely
stronger than a normal human. He is nicknamed “the weakest” by his fellow
hunters. One day, he and others find themselves trapped in an extremely
dangerous dungeon, and only a few survive and manage to escape. Sung Jin-woo himself
barely survives and is the only one to complete all the trials in this dungeon,
becoming a “player,” now able to see an interface that shows him quests, stats,
inventory, shops, and levels. Will he manage to level up to become the most
powerful hunter?
