The
official site for the anime adaptation of “ Bocchi the Rock! ” announced the production of
a second season of the project. The announcement did not indicate a scheduled premiere date, but
did reveal important changes in the production team.
The most
significant change in this new phase of the series is the change in
direction. Keiichiro Saito, director of the first season, has decided
not to continue leading the project, leaving his place to Yusuke Yamamoto. CloverWorks
studio will continue to be in charge of animation, with Erika Yoshida on the
script and a new team on character design.
During a
special broadcast on YouTube, Saito explained the reasons behind his decision:
- « For me, the story was complete with the first season. I had no intention of making a second one. I received many requests from Aniplex, author Aki Hamaji, and fans, which gave me mixed feelings. I knew that if I accepted, I would have to devote even more resources to the musical aspect, which would be a huge challenge. In the end, I felt that I was not the right person to lead this project and preferred to step aside . »
Despite his
departure as lead director, Saito will remain involved in the project in an
advisory role. Yamamoto, for his part, expressed his enthusiasm for continuing
the story of Hitori Gotoh and the Kessoku Band: “ I’m excited to
once again enjoy this experience alongside Bocchi and his band. I know there
are high expectations and I will work hard with the team to deliver something
worthy of the fans’ affection .”
For his part, Aki Hamaji began publishing the manga through Houbunsha 's Manga Time Kirara Max magazine in December 2017. The first season of the anime aired during the Fall 2022 season (October-December) and had a total of twelve episodes, followed by two compilation films.
Synopsis
of Bocchi the Rock!
Hitori
“Bocchi” Gotou, a loner and eager to socialize, spends her time playing guitar.
One fateful day, Bocchi meets outgoing drummer Nijika Ijichi, who invites her
to join the Kessoku Band when their guitarist, Ikuyo Kita, runs away before
their first concert. Soon after, Bocchi meets her latest bandmate, the
brilliant bassist Ryou Yamada.
Though
their first performance together is lackluster, the girls are strengthened by
their shared love of music, and are soon joined again by Kita. Finding joy in
performing, Bocchi and her fellow students put their best effort into improving
as musicians while making the most of their fleeting high school days.
