Through a
press release, Houbunsha announced that Maiko Uchino ’s
manga , “ Slow Loop ,” will enter an
indefinite suspension due to the author’s declining health. Although a
resumption date was not revealed, it was specified that it will be announced as
soon as an agreement is reached between the publisher and the author, once she
recovers.
To solve
the mystery, the author herself issued a press release revealing
terrible news: she has breast cancer. In a letter to her
followers, she wrote:
- Thank you for reading Slow
Loop . I am very sorry that I have paused publication for two months
straight. Last month I underwent surgery to remove breast cancer,
and although I will now begin treatment with medication, the side effects
may make regular publication difficult. In order to avoid causing problems
for the magazine, we have decided to move the series to Houbunsha's COMIC
FUZ app . I would be very happy if you would continue to support
me there.
- I hesitated to reveal my
diagnosis, but having experienced firsthand the importance of regular
medical checkups, I want to take this opportunity to pass on a message: To
all readers, freelancers, my fellow mangakas… Get checked out! You may be busy or scared to
go to the hospital, but the later an illness is detected, the harder it is
to treat. That’s why I decided to share it. Everyone, let’s get regular
medical checkups!
Maiko
Uchino began
publishing the manga in Houbunsha ’s Manga Time Kirara
Forward magazine in September 2018. A twelve-episode anime adaptation was
produced by CONNECT Studios and aired during the Winter 2022
period (January-March). The adaptation featured a cameo by the
Kessoku Band, long before the “Bocchi the Rock!” anime premiered.

Loop Synopsis
Since
she was a child, Hiyori Yamakawa has witnessed her father’s various
eccentricities, but one activity she has always enjoyed doing with him is fly
fishing, a complicated but rewarding method of catching fish. Even after his
sudden death, Hiyori continues to visit the coast in her free time, savoring
the joy that the memory of her father brings her.
Three
years later, Hiyori's mother decides to remarry and hosts a dinner party with
her fiancé, his daughter, and Hiyori to celebrate. Eager and eager to hang out,
Hiyori heads to her usual fishing spot when suddenly a rather energetic girl
named Koharu Minagi appears before her. They soon become acquainted, and Koharu
takes an interest in fly fishing. However, their meeting is more than just a
coincidence: Koharu turns out to be Hiyori's future stepsister, which is just
the beginning of the most precious memories the two will cherish as they foster
their sisterhood.
