The
return of "Grand Blue" is getting closer! As we mentioned in our previous news , the anime will premiere its
second season on July 7 in Japan, and we've already seen a new promotional
visual and the confirmation of the opening theme song, "Seishun Towa"
by Shonan no Kaze and Atarashii Gakko!. But now we have more news that will
excite you. The anime's official website has just shared a new
promotional video, where we can hear the full ending song for the first time.
The wait is almost over!
Evidently,
with this, the season's ending theme song has been revealed: "Hadaka de
Dotsukiai feat. May'n" (Let's Punch Each Other While Naked feat. May'n) by
hip-hop artist SEAMO. Additionally,
as previously announced, the premiere will be on July 7 at 12:30 am (Japan
time) on Tokyo MX, BS11 and MBS, and the plot will begin with Iori returning to
Izu after his diving license training in Okinawa, just as he receives a letter from
his sister Shiori.
Finally,
the statement also included some comments from these artists:
- SEAMO's comment: I'm SEAMO, and I had the
pleasure of creating "Hadaka de Dotsukiai feat. May'n"! To be
honest… I foolishly submitted a demo of this song as if I had nothing to
lose. I thought, with a title like that and lyrics that go against the
grain of the times, I didn't have a chance… but somehow, it worked out!
(laughs) I'm grateful to the brave people who made that punkish decision,
and also to May'n, who, despite being in a stable position, agreed to join
in on this joke. My generation lived for fun and momentum! We had no
reason to be confident, but we laughed at silly things with friends, and
lived life to the fullest, both laughing and crying, always with full
energy! That fits perfectly with the vibe of Grand Blue, so it was really
easy for me to relate to the series. So, enjoy this "energetic,
passionate, and naked song" that won't stop you from jumping!
- May'n's comment: This year marks my 20th debut anniversary, and I'm super excited to have received an invitation from SEAMO to collaborate again! When SEAMO participated in one of my early works years ago, it was incredible, and I'm so happy to be able to work with him again. Grand Blue x SEAMO is the best team! This song is pure fun, direct, and liberating—it's a perfect track to listen to at a party this summer!
If you're
not familiar with Grand Blue yet, here's a rundown of the franchise:
- The manga, created by Kenji
Inoue and illustrated by Kimitake Yoshioka, has been serialized in
Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine since April 2014. Its anime adaptation was
produced by Zero-G, with a twelve-episode season that aired in the summer
of 2018 (from July to September). A live-action film was subsequently
released in November 2019 in Japan.
- As for the voice cast, it
features Yuuma Uchida as Iori Kitahara, Ryohei
Kimura as Kohei Imamura, Hiroki Yasumoto as
Shinji Tokita, and Katsuyuki Konishi as Ryuujiro
Kotobuki, among others. The film is directed by Shinji Takamatsu (known
for his work on Gintama, Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou, and Sakamoto desu
ga?) along with studios Zero-G and Liber .
Takamatsu is also in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
- The character designs and
animation direction are by Hideoki Kusama (who worked on
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Toradora!) and Youichi Ueda (who
worked on Trigun, Gangsta, and Sora no Otoshimono). The music is by Yukari
Hashimoto (who also worked on Toradora!, Golden Time, and Gekkan
Shoujo Nozaki-kun).
- The plot follows Iori Kitahara,
a young man who moves to the coastal city of Izu to begin his first year
of college, staying at Grand Blue, his uncle's dive shop. While dreaming
of a peaceful college life, he finds himself drawn into the wild parties
of the Diving Club. The series explores his misadventures as he
tries to achieve his college goals, all amid comedic situations related to
diving and college life.
