A year ago, we told you that Netflix was working on a
new live-action adaptation of the popular manga "Kakegurui: Compulsive
Gambler," titled "BET ," with Simon Barry (Warrior Nun) as showrunner. Now, the
platform has finally spilled the beans: "BET" will premiere
on May 15, and its first official trailer is now available , giving a
glimpse of what awaits us with this Western version of the most twisted
boarding school of all.
The story
continues to unfold at an exclusive school for the world's elite, where
clandestine gambling rules the social hierarchy, and everything takes an
unexpected turn with the arrival of a mysterious exchange student. Yes,
we're talking about Yumeko Jabami, played by Miku Martineau, who already stars
in the trailer, showcasing her iconic passion for risk and chaos.
The main
cast also includes Ayo Solanke, Eve Edwards, Clara Alexandrova, Hunter
Cardinal, Anwen O'Driscoll, Aviva Mongillo and Ryan Sutherland.
The
original Kakegurui manga was written by Homura Kawamoto and
illustrated by Toru Naomura , and began serialization in Square
Enix 's Gangan Joker magazine in 2014. It's
since spawned an entire expanded universe, including the spinoff " Kakegurui
Twin ," two anime seasons produced by MAPPA , a
spin-off adaptation of the spin-off, and also a Japanese live-action series
with two seasons and a movie. So if you're already familiar with the
chaos that is "Kakegurui," prepare to see Netflix try to capture that
same energy with its own version.
