A New Take
on a Japanese Horror Classic
Eko Eko
Azarak Reborn is a remake of the iconic horror manga created by Shinichi Koga
and originally published between 1975 and 1979. In this new interpretation, the
story once again delves into a world plagued by witchcraft, dark magic, and
demons.
The
protagonist is Misa Kuroi, a witch of great power who is summoned by a stranger
in response to humanity's darkest desires. Her mission: to descend into Hell
itself, face her past, and confront Lucifer himself. To survive, Misa must
unleash her full potential while facing unspeakable horrors.
From the
original manga to multiple adaptations
The
original story of Eko Eko Azarak was serialized in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen
Champion magazine between 1975 and 1979, collecting a total of 19 volumes. The
legacy of this work spans not only the paperback but also six live-action films
released between 1995 and 2006, a television series in 1997, a two-episode OVA
in 2007, and even two video games.
Yamada's
remake was published between March 2020 and March 2023 in Akita Shoten's
Champion RED magazine. The fifth and final compiled volume was released in May
2023.
