Kadokawa
has announced that the Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket manga,
created by Hiroyuki Tamakoshi, will resume publication on June 26, 2025, in the
next issue of Monthly Gundam Ace magazine.
The series
had been on hiatus since December 2023 due to the author's health issues,
revealing that his cancer had spread to his liver. Since then, Tamakoshi has
undergone treatments and surgeries, including a third operation in January of
this year.
A Personal
Struggle Behind the Return
Tamakoshi
first shared in September 2022 that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer,
which led him to temporarily halt his work while undergoing chemotherapy.
Despite the difficulties, the manga briefly returned in May 2023 before going
on another hiatus later that year.
In an
update published last December, the author assured his readers that he remains
actively working on both Gundam 0080 and his other ongoing project, Yomei 1-nen
no AV Joyū (The One-Year-Old AV Actress).
About the
Manga and Its Original Story
Mobile Suit
Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket is an adaptation of the popular OVA of the same
name, but the manga offers a different approach by telling the story from
Chris's perspective. The project began serialization in June 2021, and its
fourth compiled book volume was published in December 2023.
Hiroyuki
Tamakoshi's Career
Tamakoshi
is widely known for his collaboration with Masahiro Itabashi on the Boys Be…
franchise, a teen romance manga that has had multiple installments since the
1990s. The series has several sequels, an anime adaptation released in 2000,
and even live-action and theatrical productions in Japan.
