Kadokawa
revealed the first promotional video for Nukitashi The Animation on Wednesday,
along with confirmation of its official July premiere and a new cast of
characters joining this eccentric story based on Qruppo's adult visual novel.
The series
adapts the full title Nuki-Gee Mitai na Shima ni Sunderu Hinnyū (Watashi) wa Dō
Surya Ii Desuka? (What's a Flat Girl Like Me to Do on an Island Straight Out of
an Erotic Game?), better known simply as Nukitashi.
More Voices
Join the Chaotic Seiran Island
Among the
new additions to the cast are:
Masumi Tazawa as Tōka Reizeiin
Nanami Aiba as Rei Tadasugawa
Nana Inoue
as Ikuko Onabuta
These
actresses take over from the voices originally used in the video game, in which
many performers used pseudonyms due to the adult content. It has not been
confirmed whether some will return under their real names.
Advance
Screening in Tokyo Theaters
Before its
television premiere, the anime will hold an advance screening of the first
three episodes on Saturday, June 22, at Cinem@rt Shinjuku in Tokyo.
A Creative
Team with Experience in Controversial Titles
The
direction is in charge of Nobuyoshi Nagayama (Vampire Dormitory, Love Flops,
Happy Sugar Life), under the studio Passione. The script and series composition
are by Kenta Ihara (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy, Mieruko-chan), while Naoto
Kurahone and Yū Kamichika are supervising the scripts as writers of the
original game.
Kumata is
in charge of character design, and the music is composed by Hakushaku Ebikare,
Sasa Ikeki, Umigame, and Kashiko. Hamedori-kun is supervising overall
production.
Nukitashi:
Satire, Eroticism, and Revolution
The
original video game was released in 2018 as an adult title that parodies the
genre's clichés. Its story follows a group called No Love No Sex, which fights
against the "Perverted Law" that rules Seiran Island, where sex has
become mandatory. With eccentric humor, action, and social commentary, the
title was acclaimed by the Japanese public, winning awards such as Best
Screenplay and Best New Brand at the 2018 Moe Game Awards.
The visual
novel has a sequel, Nukitashi 2, released in 2019. Both installments have been
localized into English by Shiravune and are available on platforms such as
Johren and Steam (for adults only).
It also has
a manga adaptation.
The story
also inspired a manga adaptation illustrated by Mameojitan, which debuted in
2020 on Beaglee's Manga Ōkoku platform and then moved to Shueisha's Ultra Jump
in 2021.
With a
combination of obscene comedy, social commentary, and provocative characters,
Nukitashi promises to be one of the most controversial and talked-about
releases of the summer season.
