This
Wednesday, the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Toi-san wa
Seishun Shitai! "Baka to SmaPho to Romance to" unveiled
a new promotional image, seven new cast members, and the group that
will perform the film's ending theme.
This film
project is based on the popular short video series created by Jel,
a member of the boy band Strawberry Prince. The story follows Akane
Toi, a high school student who meets a handsome classmate named Jel on her
first day of school, unleashing a school comedy with romantic and absurd
overtones.
An
increasingly complete cast

voice actors confirmed for the film are:

Production
and Premiere Details
The film
will be released in Japan on July 18, 2024 (UTC+2), with Mankyū directing
(Pui Pui Molcar, Sumikkogurashi, THE IDOLM@STER
Shiny Colors), under the Seven Arcs studio. The screenplay
was written by Yoichi Kato (Aikatsu!) in collaboration
with Jel, who also plays himself and Toi-san.
Akemi
Kobayashi (Chi's
Sweet Home, Love After World Domination) was in charge of
character design. The music was produced by STPR MUSIC and AniTone,
with background music composed by Hiromi Mizutani (Non Non
Biyori) and AniTone.
The opening
theme, "Meccha Tooi! featuring Jel & Toi-san", will
also be played by the characters Jel and Toi-san. The lyrics and composition
were in charge of Takuya Koyama, a member of the band Yabai
T-shirts-ya-san.
A viral
phenomenon that jumps to the cinema
The Toi-san video
series debuted in April 2019 on X and currently has more than 1,000
videos posted and more than 10 billion cumulative views on
platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. In addition, the franchise has an
official book to learn English and a novel.
The film is
distributed by Shochiku, while STPR and Dentsu make
up the production committee. Jel is also actively involved in planning,
scripting, storyboarding, character design, and voice acting. Nana
Mori, leader of Strawberry Prince, serves as executive producer of the
project.
Strawberry
Prince, from social media to anime
Formed in
2016, the group Strawberry Prince has gained enormous
popularity thanks to their online videos. In July 2024, they released their own
film: Gekijōban SutoPuri Hajimari no Monogatari: Strawberry School
Festival!!!, in which they also participated as voice actors.
They have
toured five arenas in Japan and debuted at the Kōhaku Uta Gassen in
December 2023, one of the country's most important music events. In addition,
they have performed songs for anime such as Yo-kai Gakuen Y and Cardfight!!
Vanguard overDress, and even lent their voices in the Yo-kai Gakuen series.
