The
September issue of Monthly Dessert magazine, published
by Kodansha, revealed that the popular manga Hananoi-kun to
Koi no Yamai (A Condition Called Love), by Megumi
Morino, will have a new spin-off series that will be
released in the January issue. This announcement comes just after the official
end of the main manga, which was published in the same issue of the
magazine on July 24, 2025.
A manga
that conquered the shojo public
Hananoi-kun
to Koi no Yamai debuted
on Monthly Dessert in December 2017 and quickly became a
favorite within the shojo genre. With more than 4
million copies in circulation (including digital editions), the work
won the Best Shojo Manga award at the 45th edition of
the Kodansha Manga Awards in 2021. The 17th compilation volume was
released in Japan on May 13.
An
unexpected love story
The story
follows Hotaru, a 16-year-old student who has never been interested
in love and prefers to spend time with her family and friends. Everything
changes when one day he sees Hananoi-kun, his classmate, sitting
under the snow after a very public breakup, and decides to share his umbrella
with him. The next day, he asks her to go out in front of the whole class, and
thus begins a love story that defies the expectations of both.
Anime
and its international reach
The manga
was adapted into an anime in April 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming
the series simultaneously with Japan. The adaptation helped further expand the
title's popularity with international audiences.
With this
new side story, fans will have the opportunity to immerse themselves again in
the world of A Condition Called Love and discover new
perspectives on its beloved characters.
