After having postponed its premiere until January 2026, the Sentenced to Be a Hero anime regains momentum by revealing three new voice actors who join the project. This adaptation of the dark fantasy light novel series continues to generate expectations among fans of the genre.

Renowned actors join the project

The new confirmed characters and their respective voices are:

  • Norgalle Senridge, played by Yoji Ueda (Eisen in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End).
  • Tatsuya, played by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Inosuke in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba).
  • Tsav, played by Jun Fukushima (Kazuma Satou in KONOSUBA: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!).

An anime that transforms heroism into punishment

Sentenced to Be a Hero is based on the light novels Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004, written by Rocket Shokai and illustrated by MEPHISTO, published in Japan by ASCII Media Works under the Dengeki no Shin Bungei imprint. The English version is available through Yen Press.

The story presents a world in which heroism has become a condemnation. The worst criminals are forced to fight on the front lines against pockets of corruption that destroy the land and turn creatures into violent monsters. If they die, they are revived over and over again to continue the endless war. Everything changes when Xylo Forbartz, goddess slayer and member of Hero Penal Unit 9004, meets a new goddess and makes a pact that could alter the fate of the world.

Production in fairly experienced hands

The anime adaptation is directed by Hiroyuki Takashima at Studio KAI. Assistant direction and creature design are in charge of Yoshitake Nakakoji, with Kenta Ihara in composition and scripts, Takeru Noda in character design and Shunsuke Takizawa in music.

With its dark premise and intense narrative, Sentenced to Be a Hero is shaping up to be one of the most impactful releases of the coming year.
