Details
of the new edition
The release
will include both the original Japanese audio and the English
and Spanish dubbing, as well as bonus material that will
enrich the experience of Tezuka collectors and fans.
The
story behind Prime Rose
In this
special, a mysterious entity known as Death Mask transports
the city of Kujukuri, in Japan, and the city of Dallas, in the United
States, 10,000 years in the future. Both merge into a brutal
battlefield where only the strongest can survive. In the midst of the
chaos, Gai Tanbara travels to this dystopian world determined
to stop the villain's tyranny.
On his way
he meets Emiya, a warrior who fights to free her city from
darkness. Together they face an uncertain fate that threatens all of humanity.
The anime
special was directed by Satoshi Dezaki and aired in Japan
on August 21, 1983 as part of the charity show 24-Hour
Television: Love Saves the Earth. The story adapts Tezuka's Prime
Rose manga, published in Akita Publishing's Weekly Shōnen
Champion magazine between 1982 and 1983.
The
legacy of Osamu Tezuka
Known as
the "God of manga," Tezuka created works that marked
generations such as Astro Boy, Black Jack, Dororo, Phoenix and The
Princess Knight. In addition, he founded the influential studio Mushi
Production, responsible for adapting much of his work and producing the
first half-hour television anime in Japan: Astro Boy, a pioneer in
animation techniques that laid the foundations of modern anime.
MediaOCD
and AnimEigo, a strategic alliance
MediaOCD, founded in 2012 by Justin
Sevakis, is recognized in the industry for the quality of its Blu-ray
restorations and editions, collaborating with publishers such as Discotek
Media, Anime Limited and NIS America.
In March
2024, the company acquired AnimEigo's distribution business,
ensuring the continuity of its physical and digital releases under the brand,
including limited editions funded through crowdfunding campaigns.
With this
new edition of Prime Rose, Tezuka's fans will have the opportunity
to rediscover one of his lesser-known works in the best quality available to
date.
