The story behind Prime Rose

In this special, a mysterious entity known as Death Mask transports the city of Kujukuri, in Japan, and the city of Dallas, in the United States, 10,000 years in the future. Both merge into a brutal battlefield where only the strongest can survive. In the midst of the chaos, Gai Tanbara travels to this dystopian world determined to stop the villain's tyranny.

On his way he meets Emiya, a warrior who fights to free her city from darkness. Together they face an uncertain fate that threatens all of humanity.

The anime special was directed by Satoshi Dezaki and aired in Japan on August 21, 1983 as part of the charity show 24-Hour Television: Love Saves the Earth. The story adapts Tezuka's Prime Rose manga, published in Akita Publishing's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine between 1982 and 1983.
