Renowned mangakas Yuto Yotsuba (Ya Boy Kongming!) and Yoshie Katō (Assassins Pride) have joined forces to launch a new manga titled Tokyo Kinoko ~The High School Girl with the World's Worst Social Skills~. The first chapter is now available from Friday, August 1 on Shueisha's Tonari no Young Jump site.

A world where everything is measured... Even what you can't see

The story takes place in a modern version of the world, where 25 years ago elements of a fantasy universe began to appear. Since then, people have figured out how to measure and rank their skills globally. In the midst of this new reality we meet Kinoko Kino, a shy girl from Gunma Prefecture who moves to Tokyo to start high school. Although her goal is to overcome her social awkwardness and make friends, she has no idea that she is ranked as world number 1 in an as-yet-unknown category.

Authors' careers

Yuto Yotsuba is widely known for being the screenwriter of Ya Boy Kongming! (Paripi Kōmei), a series that debuted in 2019 and got an anime adaptation in April 2022. The production was broadcast globally by HIDIVE, both in subtitled version and with English dubbing. In March 2024, the compilation film Paripi Kōmei Road to Summer Sonia was released in Japan, and shortly after, in April, the live-action film based on the story hit Japanese theaters, following the broadcast of a TV series between September and November 2023.

For his part, Yoshie Katō is remembered for illustrating the manga adaptation of Assassin's Pride, based on the light novels by Kei Amagi. This work was published in Ultra Jump magazine between May 2017 and August 2022, and also inspired an anime adaptation in 2019.

A promising collaboration

With an original premise that combines comedy, modern fantasy, and an unexpected protagonist, Tokyo Kinoko promises to deliver a fresh and emotional story about self-improvement and hidden abilities. Readers can now follow their first steps on the official Shueisha platform.
