Distributor
AnimEigo announced
that it will release the legendary Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01 OVA
on Blu-ray Disc on September 16. The edition will
feature remastered footage and multiple extras, including two
director's commentary tracks, interviews with the cast, a special on
Japan Self-Defense Force military vehicles, and more content
for fans and collectors.
Story
full of action and humor
The plot
revolves around the MADOX-01, an experimental combat suit that
accidentally falls into the hands of Sugimoto Kōji, a university
student. After trying to manipulate it without reading the manual, he ends up
trapped inside the suit and unleashing chaos on the streets of Tokyo.
Meanwhile, spiteful Lieutenant Kilgore seeks revenge after
being humiliated in a previous test, initiating an explosive chase.
In the
midst of this urban disaster, test pilot Elle Kusumoto must
don another MADOX prototype to rescue Kōji before Tokyo is reduced to rubble.
But beyond the danger, Kōji faces a personal dilemma: if he's late for his date
with his girlfriend, he could lose her forever—and there's no discreet way to
show up in combat armor!
A return
awaited by fans
The
original OVA premiered in December 1987 and became the first
anime title that AnimEigo distributed in 1990. Decades later,
the company ran a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2021 to
fund this new Blu-ray edition. Currently, the work can be seen on platforms
such as RetroCrush and since May it has also been part of
the OceanVeil catalog, the new streaming service of WWWave
Corporation.
With
just 41 minutes of duration, Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01 continues
to be a retro jewel of eighties anime, capable of mixing action, comedy and an
irreverent spirit that has kept it alive among fans of the mecha genre.
