Nike and KONAMI have
surprised fans with a special edition sneaker inspired by Joey Wheeler,
known in Japan as Katsuya Jonouchi, one of the most remembered
characters in Yu-Gi-Oh!. The design is based on the footwear that
the duelist wore in the animated series in the early 2000s.
Two
versions for different markets
The
new Air Max 95 QS YGO will be available from September
12. The collection will include two models: the international version
called "Joey" and the exclusive version for Japan
called "Jonouchi", the latter with a unique
color palette that differentiates it from the global edition.
More
than just sneakers
The
collaboration is not only limited to footwear. Buyers will receive special
limited-edition Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, as well as animated promotions featuring
the franchise's original voice actors, in both Japanese and
English.
A nod to
nostalgia
The choice
of Joey Wheeler to star in this release appeals directly to the nostalgia of
fans of the saga. The character, Yugi's best friend, is remembered for his
impulsive and loyal character, traits that made him a favorite among fans.
Currently,
the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise continues to expand with new projects,
such as the Yu-Gi-Oh! The Chronicles and streams available
on Crunchyroll, where fans can relive the original adventures of
Yugi, Joey, Tristan and Téa facing the legendary Monster Duels.
