The 17th
issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine revealed on
August 20 that mangaka Fusai Naba, known for works such as Aliens
Area and Kyokuto Necromance, will publish a new manga in
its next issue on September 5. The project is tentatively
titled Tenpō Zankoku Monogatari (Cruel Tales of the Tenpō
Era).
To
accompany the announcement, the author shared a promotional illustration that
anticipates the atmosphere of the work.
History
of justice in difficult times
The plot
will revolve around a man who seeks justice in the midst of an
era marked by hunger and corruption. Although more details have not yet been
revealed, the title suggests a historical and social approach that contrasts
with Naba's earlier works.
The
author's journey
Naba
debuted with the Aliens Area manga in Weekly Shonen
Jump magazine in June 2022, although the work concluded in October of
the same year, compiling only three volumes. The series is
available in English digitally through MANGA Plus and Viz
Media.
Most
recently, in April 2024, he released Kyokuto Necromance, also
on Weekly Shonen Jump, ending in September of the same year with a
total of two volumes. This work is also published digitally
on MANGA Plus and will be released by Viz Media in digital
format this fall.
Expectation
for this new work
With this
announcement, Fusai Naba's followers hope to discover a different side of the
author, who now enters a historical setting with dark and reflective overtones,
leaving behind the science fiction and fantasy themes of his previous projects.
