Kojima
Productions announced
during its 10th anniversary event "Beyond the Strand" the
production of an anime film based on the video game Death Stranding.
The feature film will be titled Death Stranding Mosquito and
was presented along with a first visual teaser and a promotional video.
An
international team behind the project
The film
will be directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto (Hugtto! Precure, Futari
wa Precure: All Stars Memories), while the screenplay will be written
by Aaron Guzikowski, recognized for his work in Hollywood. The
animation will be in charge of ABC Animation Studio, for whom this
will be their first official project. The film will also be a
co-production with U.S. partners.
Death
Stranding, a cultural phenomenon
The Death
Stranding video game debuted in November 2019 for PlayStation 4 and
eventually made its way to PC, PS5, Apple devices, Amazon Luna, and Xbox Series
X/S. Hideo Kojima's work reached 5 million copies sold
in 2021 and exceeded 20 million players in 2025.
The saga
continued with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, released on June
26, 2025 for PlayStation 5. The original title won three awards at The
Game Awards 2019, including Best Director, Best Original Score and Best
Performance (Mads Mikkelsen).
One more
step in the expansion of the saga
With this
project, Death Stranding confirms its intention to continue
expanding beyond video games. The anime film not only commemorates the
anniversary of Kojima Productions, but also marks a milestone by being the
first project of the newly founded ABC Animation Studio.
