Renowned
author Naoto Tsushima surprised fans with the release of a new
manga titled Zoids x Patlabor -Code Name B.U.D.D.Y.-, available
on IMAGICA Infos' Hero Comics website. The story
introduces Zoid Hunter Wolf, who is transported to Patlabor's universe
to protect Tokyo alongside the new Ingram Mark III Labor.
The
legacy of Zoids
The Zoids franchise
has a long history since the premiere of its anime Zoids: Chaotic
Century in 1999. More recently, in July 2024, a
commemorative project for the 25th anniversary was announced.
In addition, in 2018, Takara Tomy introduced Zoids
Wild, which included anime, manga, collectible models, and video games
for Nintendo Switch.
Patlabor's
return
For its
part, Patlabor continues to expand its universe with the anime
project Patlabor EZY, revealed in 2017 by GENCO. Its
pilot aired in August 2022, and the full production is scheduled to
premiere in 2026. The franchise was born from the concept of
mech-piloting cops known as "Patlabors", developed by the HEADGEAR collective,
made up of such prominent names as Mamoru Oshii, Kazunori
Itō, Yutaka Izubuchi, Akemi Takada and Masami
Yuuki.
Two classics united
The
crossover unites two sagas that marked generations of fans of the mecha genre.
With this collaboration, Zoids and Patlabor not
only celebrate their legacy, but also offer a fresh proposal that promises to
excite old and new fans.
