The official website for the anime adaptation of the light novel Always a Catch! (Nigashita Sakana wa Ookikatta ga Tsuriageta Sakana ga Ookisugita Ken), written by May Momoyo, announced that the series will premiere in spring 2026. The statement was accompanied by a first promotional video, a teaser image and the presentation of the main cast and production team.
The direction will be in charge of Akira Oguro (Giant Beasts of Ars, Namu Amida Butsu! Rendai Utena) in the studio TROYCA. Michiko Yokote (Ao-chan Can't Study!, Call of the Night) will supervise the scripts, while Isamu Suzuki (Shinobi no Ittoki) will be in charge of character design.

May Momoyo published the original story of Nigashita Sakana wa Ookikatta ga Tsuriageta Sakana ga Ookisugita Ken like a short story on the platform Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2020. That same year, he began publishing a sequel series set in the same universe. The work combines romance, comedy and social entanglements within a modern fantasy context.
