If you thought a two-meter gaming PC was impressive, wait until you see what Tokyo has in store to say goodbye to 2025. The Japanese capital is set to debut what organizers are calling "the greatest Hatsune Miku in history" during its New Year's countdown show.

A 127-metre canvas

The iconic Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building will be transformed into a massive projection (mapping) stage on December 31, 2025. The site, which already holds a Guinness World Record for its architectural projection system and has previously showcased Godzilla and Evangelion units, will now be home to the virtual idol on a colossal scale.

The visual spectacle has been created by the famous director Mika Ninagawa and the creative team EiM, mixing animation, lasers and music on an area of approximately 127 meters. Although the exact height of Miku's projection has not been confirmed, it will dominate the city's skyline at midnight.

Hello Kitty and Shigekix join the party

The event, titled Happy New Year Tokyo 2026, won't just be about the turquoise-haired diva. It will also feature a dance show starring Hello Kitty and her friends, as well as a live performance by breakdancer Shigekix. Admission is free with prior registration, but if you're not in Japan, don't worry: there will be a live stream so everyone can shout "Happy New Year!" next to a skyscraper-sized Hatsune Miku.
